Mario Scores New Football Game

The pudgy plumber laces up his cleats for yet another sporty outing. First screens and details.

That Mario sure is active for such a portly fellow. In addition to plumbing (we presume), jumping, dancing, partying and playing baseball and tennis, the moustachioed Nintendo stalwart will soon be getting fitted for cleats for his debut football outing.

Super Mario Strikers checks all the boxes that just sprung up in your head. Mario and the rest of Nintendo's top-tier characters have all made the squad, and they'll be playing matches on Mario-themed levels filled with power-up shells and the madcap antics Mario's peripheral outings have become known for.

You won't have to enjoy all this footie goodness on your own either, as Nintendo has thrown in support for up to four players. Just remember not to throw your Wave Bird when you're beaten - no wires means certain pain.

Nintendo has not yet revealed a release date for the GameCube game, but we'd expect it to arrive before the year is out.
