Sega Reveals Next-Gen Sonic

I-told-you-sos all around, as Sega confirms next-gen Sonic game is in the works for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Sega has revealed that it's working on a new Sonic The Hedgehog game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, confirming Kikizo's exclusive report from earlier this week. For the new game, Sega will "reinvent" the Sonic franchise, sending it off into the next generation with style.

At their core, Sonic games have always been about the mind-altering speed, and it's this in particular that Yuji Naka, the creator of Sonic, wants gamers to experience using the power of Sony's and Microsoft's new consoles:

"With Sonic The Hedgehog, we have gone back to our starting point, more than 15 years ago, to reinvent the attitude and speed that made our hero a legend. The 'rebirth of Sonic' will offer an unparalleled sense of speed that is only possible using the processing power afforded by the new systems."

Sega has not confirmed how closely - if at all - the new Sonic game will echo the demo shown at this year's E3, but judging by tese shots, there seem to be a lot of similarities.

Quite when the game will be out is unknown, but Sega has stated that it will have a simultaneous release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which puts it around spring 2006 at the earliest. The release is being timed to coincide with Sonic's 15th anniversary.
