EA Dominating at the Register
Latest sales charts offer more proof of the monstrous dimensions of the world's largest publisher.
With the FA Cup Final rapidly approaching, footie fever is in the air, and those with a hankering for an electronic version rushed to stores this weekend to pick up EA's latest urban-style football game, FIFA Street 2, propelling it to the top spot on the weekly sales charts.
It was the cap to a dominant week for EA, which took seven of the top ten spots, helped along by the continued success of the The Sims. The latest expansion pack, The Sims 2: Open for Business, came in third for the week behind Burnout creator Criterion's bullet-laced shooter Black. Black is also the only original game not based on a previous game or a franchise in the Top 10.
Further down the charts, this week also saw Sony' Shadow of the Colossus drop out of the upper tier for the first time since its release, and things were worse for spiritual predecessor Ico, which fell out of the Top 40 completely.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 4 March, as determined by Chart Track:
- FIFA Street 2 (EA)
- Black (EA)
- The Sims 2: Open for Business (EA)
- TOCA Race Driver 3 (Codemasters)
- Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth II (EA)
- Need for Speed: Most Wanted (EA)
- FIFA 06 (EA)
- The Sims 2 (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (Konami)
- Star Wars: Empire at War (LucasArts)
