Colin McRae Slides Into the Next Gen
After a two year hiatus, the rally star is returning in a fancy new next-gen game. First screens.
The early days of the PlayStation saw Codemasters' Colin McRae Rally series dominate the off-road driving scene, but the last few years have seen its fortunes flag. Now after a two-year hiatus, Codemasters is bringing the series to the next generation.
Tentatively titled CMR'07, the game takes the series into new territory. Most notable is a diversion from the point-to-point nature of rally games and something detractors have clamoured for for years - extra cars on the track.
The traditional rally gameplay is still there, though, and it should be better than ever with accurately recreated courses from around the world.
"The all-new Colin McRae Rally will be a real evolution for the series and offer a massive variety of off-road events, more than any other single-championship rally game has before," reckons Codemasters' Gavin Raeburn.
"It's being designed to offer a totally accessible, high-speed and adrenalin-fuelled ride for newcomers to the series, yet race hardened McRae players will be able to delve under the bonnet and immerse themselves in the most challenging of competitions."
CMR'07 will be out for unnamed next-gen consoles sometime next year.
