"GTA: Europe" Gossip Emerges
First details of the probably top-secret next Grand Theft Auto project for next-gen.
Videogame retailers are still experiencing the relentless sales power of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but already it seems that Rockstar could be working on a sequel.
Only too aware of the importance of the franchise and its significance to its publicly-listed parent company, Take 2, the publisher is said to be wasting no time in putting together a sequel.
According to a report in this morning's edition of trade newspaper MCV, the next Grand Theft Auto will show up on next generation consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 2 - something pretty obvious when you consider how much San Andreas is pushing current generation hardware.
In addition, the magazine cites "sources close to the project" in revealing that "the team is looking beyond the US for the setting of the next title, with Europe a strong contender." Again, perhaps slightly obvious, since the game's last outing seemed to cover the entire country - or an entire state, at least.
The prospect of a series as sophisticated and dearly loved as Grand Theft Auto on PS3 and Xbox 2 is about as big a deal there is when it comes to the future of gaming, and it's surely only a matter of days before GTA: Europe fansites start appearing.
Meanwhile, an unofficial mod has been released that allows you to dress up CJ from GTA San Andreas as Master Chief of Halo fame, complete with sniper rifle - illustrating how the series' fanbase is almost unrivalled in its enthusiasm.
