Wii Sports

Whether or not you think Wii Sports is 'free' should really depend on how good or bad it is.

For some, the embarrassing name of Nintendo's 'Wii' will pale in contrast to how silly you'll feel when you're throwing your arms around in Wii Sports - but it's soon apparent that everyone is having too much fun to notice.

It's the ideal pack-in game to be bundled with the Wii console, offering a large but simple slice of what the Wii experience is meant to be about, while leaving you curious about what more the console really has to offer.

"The controller is remarkably sensitive, picking up every slight hand movement."

Our initial reaction to Wii Sports was 'wow - this is really simple'. It's this simplicity that makes the controller so easy to get to grips with, triumphant in its effort to make you feel like you're playing the real sport equivalent.

Swinging the controller like a tennis racket allows you to swing the racket on screen in real time on the court, offering a great sense of achievement when you manage to swing and hit the ball for the first time.

The sense of accomplishment is all the more pronounced when you have another three people playing with you, trying to barge past to get their shot in and perhaps using a lame excuse such as tennis elbow when they miss it - no rival Kikizo names mentioned.

The controller is remarkably sensitive, picking up every slight hand movement and this is particularly evident in bowling where you have use an underarm throwing movement. I'm a terrible bowler, and I was equally terrible at the bowling game. For some reason I always put the tiniest of spins unintentionally on the ball as I throw it, and the wiimote picked up on this, sending my ball right down the gutter.
